Every parent of an autistic child knows the social anxiety that comes with it: the fear that they won't understand the situation, that they’ll be left alone during recess, or that they might be teased.

On one hand, in one-on-one therapy, the child works with an adult.

It’s safe, containing, and essential for acquiring core skills.

However, it doesn't always reflect the social reality outside. Interacting with peers is faster, less sensitive, and doesn't mimic the controlled environment of the therapy room.

On the other hand, group therapy, despite its many benefits, can be overwhelming, noisy, and too complex for many children.

We are proud to launch a new therapeutic format born out of a real need in the field: Dyadic (Paired) Therapy.

This is the precise space that sits right between individual and group therapy. It is suitable for children of all functioning levels and ages, offering a personalized response designed to tailor the social composition that is just right for each child.

Who is Dyadic Therapy for?

  • Children who have maximized individual therapy: Those who feel comfortable with adults and are ready for a social leap. Paired therapy allows them to experience authentic, challenging interaction without the sensory or social overload of a large group.

  • Children requiring intensive support: Those who need close guidance and high level mediation. For them, a multi participant group is too complex. In a paired format, they enjoy high level personal support while gaining a precious opportunity to form a meaningful bond with a peer.

  • Children with an avoidant social profile: Those who have experienced rejection or social failure in large groups (like school) and have developed social anxiety. For them, meeting just one other child is a safe, gradual exposure that rebuilds their trust in peers.

  • Children with auditory processing or sensory regulation difficulties: A large group is noisy and filled with movement and stimuli. Paired therapy allows for social training in an acoustically and visually quiet environment, so the child isn't busy with sensory survival and is free to communicate.

  • Children with limited language or non-verbal communication challenges: In a group, these children tend to get lost. In a pair, the dynamics require interaction, but without the pressure of an audience. This encourages natural, calm, and closely mediated communicative initiatives.

  • Children looking for a precise connection around shared interests: It can be hard to find a whole group interested in a specific niche, but it’s much easier to find one kindred spirit. Connecting over a shared passion within a pair creates immense social motivation that can spark a deep connection.

Dyadic Therapy is the precise solution for children who are ready for more than the protected therapy room, yet still find the noisy social world a bit too challenging.

It is a bridge space that allows for the practice of real friendship, compromise, and reciprocity, without getting lost in the crowd.
